Soap From Scratch Beginner Recipes

The following recipes are good, basic instructions that we hand out to anyone who comes in the store wanting to try making soap from scratch without making a large investment.

Recipe #1

Makes a little over 2 pounds of soap. This soap does a beautiful job of cleaning and is just full of bubbles.

  16 oz. Pure Vegetable Shortening (no name is perfect)
   7 oz. Pomace Olive Oil
   6 oz. Coconut Oil
   9 oz. Cold Water (distilled or purified works best)
   4 oz. Lye Crystals

Add 3/4 to 1 oz. of Perfume Fragrance Oil or Essential Oils at trace for a softly scented soap.

Temperatures should be between 95 and 100 degrees F for both mixtures.
 

Recipe #2

This recipe makes a nice, hard bar of soap. It also lathers well and has a wonderful cleaning ability. Makes approximately 3 lbs. of soap.

    8 oz. Palm Oil
    7 oz. Coconut Oil
    26 oz. Pomace Olive Oil
    3 oz. Cocoa Butter
    16 oz. Cold Water (distilled or purified works best)
    6 oz. Lye Crystals.

Add 1 1/4  to 1 1/2 oz. of Perfume Fragrance Oil or Essential Oils at trace for a softly scented soap.

Temperatures should be between 95 and 100 degrees F.
