Butter Stick
Pregnancy
can really pull and stretch the skin and push it to it's limits. Butter
sticks have become an alternative to many lotions or creams on the market
because of their high emollient butter content to help add moisture to the
skin during this special time. Not only are they wonderful for bellies, but
they're great for massages too!
Here's how it
goes...
In a medium
sized pan melt the following together (all measurements are by weight except for
the essential oils):
-
2 oz. beeswax
-
2 oz. shea
butter
-
2 oz. cocoa
butter
-
1.5 oz. mango
butter
-
1.5 oz. jojoba
oil
-
1 oz. sweet
almond oil
Melt on low
to medium heat until just melted. Allow to cool down for a little while, but
not until it begins to solidify. Then add:
Mix well and
pour into 4 - 2.5 oz. deodorant sticks. Allow to set until they begin to
solidify before capping closed. This way you won't spill the mixture.
Why this
combination of ingredients?
-
Cocoa butter
provides a protective layer to the skin that is reputed to help hold moisture
making it an excellent skin softener.
-
Jojoba is said
to most closely resemble human sebum, thus assists in the rejuvenation of
cells and repairing of damaged skin.
-
Mango butter
is softer than cocoa butter and adds moisture and nourishment to the skin.
-
Shea butter
puts a breathable layer on the skin allowing it to continue sweating, releases
sebum and sheds dead skin cells. It's native to India and Africa and has been
used for centuries by women native to those regions as part of their skincare
regime.
-
Sweet Almond
Oil is said to relieve dry skin and is a light oil that is fast penetrating.
-
Litsea Cubeba
is uplifting and stimulating and has a reputation of being good for general
skincare. The bold citrus aroma is an added bonus!
-
Ylang Ylang
has been suggested to also have a balancing action on sebum which makes it
effective on both oily and dry skin... also good for general skincare.
