Carpet Freshener

Save yourself a few dollars by making your own carpet freshener using fragrances that *you* love!

What You Need

  • 4 cups sodium borate (borax)
  • 1 teaspoon of Perfume Fragrance Oils or Essential Oils
  • Ice Cream Pail

Place the sodium borate into your ice cream pail holding 1/2 cup on reserve. Add your fragrance to the 1/2 cup of sodium borate and mix well. Add this to the sodium borate in your ice cream pail and begin to work in through the remaining sodium borate. Cover and let sit for a day or two. Return to the pail and mix again until all of the particles or clumps have been worked out. Place in a shaker can.

To use, sprinkle a small amount over carpet and let sit for up to 1/2 hour before vacuuming out.

*Care should be taken to ensure that all of the fragrance or essential oil is completely mixed in with the sodium borate so that you don't accidentally get undissolved fragrance in your carpet which can stain.
